A building material shortage could mean that building owners are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to use only one kind of wood for their home.
In Australia, the demand for new homes is soaring.
“The building industry is experiencing a massive demand for building materials that will be difficult to supply,” says Peter Johnson, chief executive of the Australian Council of Building Officials.
That demand is expected to increase by as much as 40 per cent over the next five years.
It is a demand that the industry will have to work harder to meet.
To do that, the industry has developed a number of different solutions to meet the demand.
But there are still plenty of challenges to solve.
For one thing, building materials aren’t just about wood, says Johnson.
There are also different types of building materials.
So while building materials shortages are generally about wood or concrete, the problem is that in the construction industry there are a lot of different materials that are being used, including plastics, glass, aluminium, steel, and more.
This creates challenges for the industry as it attempts to supply the building materials it needs.
And while some materials can be manufactured at a high quality, there are other materials that have become more expensive and are not as widely used.
Some of the biggest challenges are around how to supply materials that could be used in a variety of different types, such as fibreboard, which is used to make carpet and is considered to be more efficient than other materials.
“If we’re looking at fibreboard and we’re going to use it in a number, we’re really only using it in two or three applications,” Johnson says.
The same problem exists with the building material demand, as the industry struggles to find ways to increase the supply of a building material that is not only used in many different applications, but that can be used to build a house.
Johnson says it is very important for the building industry to continue to improve its manufacturing processes, so that the building of a house can be made more efficiently.
What is the building supply crisis?
In a survey carried out by the Australian Building and Construction Commission, it found that there was a serious shortage of building material.
More than three million Australians are currently without a home they can afford to buy.
These people include about one in five young people.
Many are currently on fixed incomes.
When a home is needed to be built, many people rely on a home builder to supply them with the materials they need.
They do this by paying a building contractor to construct the home.
But if they don’t have the money to pay for a building project, they are forced to find someone else to do it.
According to the survey, one in six people who were in a fixed income group said they did not know where the money was going to come from.
“They have no idea where the funding is going to be coming from.
They don’t know where they’re going, what they’re doing, what the cost of the project is,” says Johnson, who says the building sector needs to take responsibility for the problem.
He says the problem could be solved by increasing the number of people in the housing market and by having a higher level of regulation around the supply chain.
As a result, there will be a higher demand for materials.
But what about the cost?
“It is difficult to understand how a building company will be able to meet these requirements,” says Michael Cappuccio, professor of structural engineering at the University of Queensland.
“[The building] industry is a huge industry, and they’re making lots of money.
If they’re all doing it in this fashion, there’s a very good chance it’s a pretty efficient way to make the money.”
But if you’re really doing it with the right quality and in the right way, you could end up with an even higher cost.

The building supply issue is being addressed by the government, but there are challenges too.
Despite the construction boom, the Australian Bureau of Statistics says the construction sector is struggling.
Almost half of all Australians are living in a low-income household, meaning that they are not making enough money to cover the costs of paying for housing.
Cappuccia says that means building projects will be built with less supply.
