The UK has a shortage of approximately 7,500,000 tonnes of bricks to be used in the construction of homes and other buildings, according to the government’s National Building Construction Agency (NBCCA).

The NBCCA says this is more than double the 3.3 million tonnes needed to build homes in 2020.

In addition, the agency says there is a shortfall of 4,500 tons of building materials which are needed for buildings in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The agency has issued guidance on how to build in an emergency.

How many bricks can you buy?

The NCBCA says that there are over 6 million tonnes of brick required to build a home in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

It says that in 2018 there were 2,700,000,000 bricks needed to construct a home, but this is expected to rise to 3,000 to 3.5 million tonnes in 2019 and then to 3 million to 3 billion tonnes by 2020.


How long will it take to build?

The agency says it expects the shortage to be resolved by the end of 2020, but estimates that the final solution could take anywhere from six to 14 months to build.


What can I do about the shortage?

The UK Government’s Building Industry Advisory Group (BIAG) says the UK needs over 4,000 million tonnes (4 million tonnes to be exact) of bricks in 2020 to build every home in the country.

However, the government is keen to build more homes, especially in the north and east of England, so that they can offer people more options.


Where can I buy bricks?

The Government’s Home Builders Council has said that it is making bricks available to anyone who wants them.

However some people have been left scratching their heads about where to get them.

The National Brick Works Association (NBWA) says there are a number of brick works in the UK, including the Brickworks, which are run by Brickworks Group.

The NBWA has also been lobbying the Government for more bricks for use in new homes.

In 2018, the NBWA said that Brickworks would not be able to supply any more than 30 per cent of its customers with bricks, but the Government has said this is no longer the case.


How much does it cost to build and how long does it take?

The average cost of a brick works is around £2,200 to build, while the average cost for a new home is around 10,000 pounds ($14,600).


Why is the shortage so high?

NBCCAs chief executive, Peter McGovern, says that the supply chain is the bottleneck.

“There’s a real shortage of bricks, the supply is not in the right place, there’s not enough supply, and that’s why we have this huge backlog of bricks,” he told BBC News.


What should I do to get bricks?

For the best value bricks for new homes, McGovern says it’s worth visiting the local brickworks and asking them for a quote.

He says you could look at the prices and see if they are accurate.

“You can go to them and ask them for their prices.

You can go and find out the price you can get and then you can ask them to do it.

That’s one of the ways we’re working to address this problem.”
