The new house on the corner of Northbourne Street and The Grove has been a big success.
The property has been up and running for three years and is already a go.
“We’re really excited about it,” said the building superintendent at Northbourne House, who asked not to be named.

“In a lot of ways it’s been a bit of a surprise.”
The biggest thing we’ve had to get over is the lack of permits, so we haven’t had a new permit issued yet.
“But we’ve got the permits now so that’s the main thing we’re focused on now.””

Building permits and safety issuesThe building inspector said the project was still in the planning stage and she was waiting for the first building permits to be issued.
She said the owners had already completed work on the main building, which includes a new decking, an extension to the main house and new insulation.
The main house is now the only home in the house’s neighbourhood, so the owner is still building a new home in it.
“It’s actually going to be built by the end of this year,” she added.
“That’s the plan.”

“The owner is planning on finishing the main and extension houses and is now working on building the new house.
“There’s a really big laneway over here, so that will be really important for us.””

Building regulationsNew building permits are a big boost for the owner and the building inspector, who has been working to make sure the house has a safe building and safety record.
The first permit issued in May 2016 is a single-family dwelling, meaning it must meet a number of building standards.
The second permit issued last year, which included an outdoor patio, was a multi-family home with the main home being a single family dwelling.
“This is a big improvement for us, we’re happy with it,” she told ABC Brisbane.
She said she was hoping to see the house up and to go for an initial inspection in the new year.
“Now we’ve gone through all the inspections so that we know what the regulations are for what they’re going to require for it to go ahead,” she continued.
“But we’re also looking to make improvements in the first year, we’ll be doing that as soon as we’re ready to.”
She said the first permit was a major step towards securing the permit.
“Right now we’re on the waiting list for the second permit so we’re looking to get the permit as soon we can.”
Construction regulationsThe owners said they were already working on an inspection plan and were confident the new owner would get the permits.
“I’ve been working with the builder to get a building permit and the last building permit is going to come into effect in the next week,” she revealed.
