A new industry is emerging in Toronto to meet the growing demand for high-quality building materials.
The Ontario Building Industry Association is set to launch a new campaign this month to highlight the growing importance of high-density, sustainable building materials in Toronto’s future.
The group is hosting a webinar in early November on its new website to share the benefits of sustainable building.
“Toronto has a tremendous number of potential building users and there’s a lot of potential for people to buy in, get in on the ground floor, build in the city, and to support the local economy,” said Andrea Leppert, a co-founder of the association and a member of the Toronto Metropolitan Area Planning Committee.
“Building materials are a critical part of this and the city is really excited to help the industry grow and to have a voice in it.”
The association has been working for years to help people understand and buy in to the building industry, Leppart said, adding that there are plenty of options available to those who want to get into the industry.
The industry is growing at an incredible rate, with the number of new and existing buildings in Toronto projected to grow by 20 per cent by 2035, according to the Ontario Building Institute.
The association will host a webcast on November 18, 2017, at 6:30 p.m.
ET to highlight some of the many building materials that can be found in Toronto.
The meeting will also include an online presentation that will give members a brief overview of the various materials, the different levels of sustainability and the different types of building they can expect to be building in the future.
“We’re excited to be able to share these important benefits and opportunities with you,” said Lepparte.
The association is looking to raise $150,000 for the webinar.
